CNC Router

In middle school, I really wanted to build my own electric guitar. Months of binge watching manufacturing videos on YouTube led me to the decision that I wanted to cut one on a CNC router. Off-the-shelf CNC routers were prohibitively expensive though, so I built this one myself based off the PrintNC open source design in 10th grade.

I did deviate from the common design in a few places, for instance by modifying a 3D printer controller to add CNC features. It uses commonly available steel tubes, 3D printed parts, and a surprisingly precise AliExpress spindle, ball screws, and linear rails.

I used it to machine tons of robot parts. It taught me so much about material science, precision, and how to make things real.

Custom softjaws for fixturing brass inserts
This steel part has an inner piece that is free, but can't get out
